Yes, but I'm lazy and will wait for others to do something about it.

Real Food Now!

Jacob Wibe has started an online petition to get 'real food' at Western. Wibe stated in the Gazette "we want a cafeteria-style restaurant that serves three to four daily alternatives for lunch and dinner". Sadly only students can sign the petition although we know many people from the city vist the campus frequently.

I think this is great!!!!

New progressive event calendar

Hi everyone,

There now is a London area web calendar for progressive events at the new London Indymedia web site -
http://londonontario.indymedia.org

You can get to the listings for the current month through links off of the main page of the Indymedia web site,
or by going here: http://londonontario.indymedia.org/?q=event

Anyone can add event listings to the calendar -- with or without an account on the site.  Anyone also can post without entering a name, let alone a real one.
To add an event listing click "Post to the site" (near the top left) and then click "Event".

(That process is almost identical to posting events at the London Commons.  The setup of the two sites should be even more in synch in the near future; on the Indymedia site we'll probably be changing the way you enter the "Body" text.)

Any event postings that are ...
pro- environmentalism  and/or  pro- peace  and/or  pro- social justice  and/or  pro- genuine democracy
... should be appropriate,
though we may not accept event postings with strong ties to political parties.  The calendar also likely will be very local.

I mention what the editors will and won't "accept" because additions to the calendar will be reviewed by us after they're posted (though anyone on the site can view them in the meantime; they're not kept in a queue).  We may remove postings.  If anything is removed from the calendar it will be moved to the "Hidden posts" section, which you can get to through a link near the top left.  (Advertising spam is an exception -- we usually just delete that.)  Ideally we wouldn't hide any posts, but there is a broadly progressive mandate behind the web site that we work to uphold.

'Sharing films under the auspices & assistance of Council of Canadians - London Chapter'

Cinema Politica London strives to champion alternative media through the art of documentary film.

We aim to engage our community with social and environmental issues globally, nationally and locally. We search for the best documentary art form.

Cinema Politica London screens new films on current issues or on issues that continue to be relevant.

Cinema Politica London looks at forces that affect the realities of people around the world. Documentary films give us the context in which we can examine globalization and individual struggles as well as the pursuit of justice as they impact and change the social construction of reality. Perceptions of reality may be limited or enlarged by nature and by spirit but they are manipulated by and for society. Cinema Politica London takes you to specific communities around the world, immerse you in their realities and awaken your understanding of change.

I read about this on the BBC website, and thought it was interesting...I'm not quite sure what to make of this, but it does seem a rather easy and convenient way for mostly privileged people to "make a difference" and to absorb some advertising while they're doing it -- it lets one feel like one is doing something without really doing anything serious to alleviate world poverty...of course, some will say it's better than nothing, but I'm pretty tired of that argument.

Anyhow, check this out:

Stop everything!!!! There's a global shortage of hops.  The CBC article on it is here.  The article metions that the greatest impact is probably going to be on the smaller, craft brewers.

Save 40 bucks a year at Tim Hortons

One non-recyclable, wax-coated paper disposable cup that ends up in the bin - and it costs you 11 cents. You don't even get to keep it. That's effectively what they charge for the cup. 11 cents!! That's a lot when a coffee is 1.30.

If you bring your own mug to Tim Hortons, you get 11 cents off. That's 40 dollars a year if you buy one coffe every day! 40 dollars = lots more cups of coffee.

And it doesn't have to be a TH mug. Any old coffee mug will do. Pass this around - it's too good to waste.

fun foodz closing sale!

I thought I should let everyone know that the store FUN FOODZ downtown on Dundas St is having a huge closing sale.  They are mostly a bulk store but they also have a lot of good organic/health/nutrition products selling at half the regular price!

I hope this post doesn't "break the rules".  I'm not trying to advertise the store as much as I'm trying to help out some commoners who could use a good discount on some food products.
