Debut of "Our Nation": Thurs. @ Old East Studios

If you like any of the following bands, you will want to come to this show, b/c that is what we (Our Nation) sound like: Sigur Ros, Silver Mt. Zion, Sonic Youth (cf. "Death Valley 69"), Grizzly Bear, the moodier parts of Blur's "13", Explosions in the Sky.

Our Nation will be playing with The Yage Letters, Madripor, and This Ends Now this Thursday (Feb. 21) @ Old East Studios (755 Dundas; across from the Embassy). All these bands are well worth $5, which is how much the show is going to cost.

Our Nation includes members from Olenka, Sick Friend, birdsacrosswater, Pale, the one behind the many, Harvest Chant, ladies magazine plot mascarade, and other great projects.

Stars of the Lid (Kranky) & Christopher Willits (Ghostly International)

in

Greetings,

I'm unbelievably thrilled to be announcing a London date for Stars of the Lid on their upcoming North American tour.  Joining them will be San Francisco's uber-talent, Christopher Willits.

In addition to the etherial, definitive and universal textures of the group, the SOTL performance will feature both a string quartet and live projections, finding new contexts and interpretations of and within their work.

The show will be held at Museum London on Sunday April 27th, and will begin at 9pm.  Tickets are $15 in advanced / $20 at the door, and will be available at Grooves Records and the UCC building begining March 3rd.

Yes, but I'm lazy and will wait for others to do something about it.

No. We should all drive cars - and I eat poo.

My Casio Love Affair

To all those out there that guessed I began my musical career with a Casio - here's the evidence:

Well, actually it was a Yamaha SU-10 and a tape recorder before that. Although I did play with a friend's Casio a lot when I was around ten or twelve.

some February shows you should know about

Hello all,

There are two upcoming shows that I'd like to inform you about.  Both promise to be memorable musical experiences.

Jane et al.'s sound is synth and string driven and melodic; her voice is very delicate and pretty.  My slower more melancholy songs should be a nice complement to her stuff (though there will be plenty of Eastern European singalongs).

New progressive event calendar

Hi everyone,

There now is a London area web calendar for progressive events at the new London Indymedia web site -
http://londonontario.indymedia.org

You can get to the listings for the current month through links off of the main page of the Indymedia web site,
or by going here: http://londonontario.indymedia.org/?q=event

Anyone can add event listings to the calendar -- with or without an account on the site.  Anyone also can post without entering a name, let alone a real one.
To add an event listing click "Post to the site" (near the top left) and then click "Event".

(That process is almost identical to posting events at the London Commons.  The setup of the two sites should be even more in synch in the near future; on the Indymedia site we'll probably be changing the way you enter the "Body" text.)

Any event postings that are ...
pro- environmentalism  and/or  pro- peace  and/or  pro- social justice  and/or  pro- genuine democracy
... should be appropriate,
though we may not accept event postings with strong ties to political parties.  The calendar also likely will be very local.

I mention what the editors will and won't "accept" because additions to the calendar will be reviewed by us after they're posted (though anyone on the site can view them in the meantime; they're not kept in a queue).  We may remove postings.  If anything is removed from the calendar it will be moved to the "Hidden posts" section, which you can get to through a link near the top left.  (Advertising spam is an exception -- we usually just delete that.)  Ideally we wouldn't hide any posts, but there is a broadly progressive mandate behind the web site that we work to uphold.

Schubertiads in London

Hi,

My name's Mike and I'm a newish musician in London.  I was wondering if any other local bands/artists would be interested in playing some house gigs?  I've always wanted to do a progressive house show where there's maybe three different houses or so with a band or two at each house and people bike/walk to each house and hear the performers in succession.  Some of my stuff is here: www.myspace.com/mikeharloff and ive got my cds up for sale at grooves.  Let me know if you're intersted in this venture or just playing a show together sometime in London.  I'd love to meet other music people.
