I went to a local canada trust to solve quite a ridicules problem that my sister had which i will not explain but the bank manager told me that the bank has to take extra precaution since 9/11 and again he told me that the bank has to be more careful. while looking at me quite seriously, he said "we are being governed like that". Apparently my 15 year old sister was a security threat. its really sick that this fear campaign is so systemic.

Margolis
I've been kind of suspicious of Eric Margolis since I read THIS back in 2001. There's somthing about a guy who calls for paramiltaries to be let loose on anti-globalization protestors (i.e. me) for an orgy of head-cracking, that makes it hard for me to take him out of my "bad books".

Imperialist apologia ad nauseum!
Thanks for that, Mike! I too have long been suspicious of Eric Margolis and that was one of the most disgusting, as well as just plain inaccurate, pieces of right-wing claptrap I have seen in a long time. There is something about writing without feeling any need for actual evidence to prove your point that is just so characteristic of those on the right. Of course, there is no evidence to prove his point, but it is somehow refreshing in a twisted kind of way to be attacked by him on all fronts: both in what I do for a living, as well as in my activist activities!
Margolis was clearly writing to a select audience with this piece of drivel. The fact that he tones down the right-wing extremism when writing to a supposedly broader audience only makes him more dangerous. Mike, if I were you, I wouldn't worry about taking him out of your "bad books." That's where he belongs!

good call mike. that is
good call mike. that is disturbing.
Meh
Your fairly lucky the manager even talked to you about your sisters issue... he would have been fully within his right to tell you to get lost... as for 9/11 who the hell knows, the banking world is different from that time as is the whole fucking world. Without knowing the situation its hard to say what should have been done... but its safe to say he may have said this to get you to go away.
within his rights?
I'm unsure as to why it would be fully "within his rights" to do such a thing. Legally, sure i suppose the manager has a "right" to rudely dismiss someone from the property. Morally, that's an abysmal way to behave and certainly not something that should be endorsed.

within his rights
since very obviously banking is a private thing between the customer and the bank, the manager or any employee of the bank can ask someone other than an involved party to leave... in fact if the manager were to release information (even if his sister had an account with TD) to someone he could get in serious shit in terms of privacy legislation... its a very shitty situation, but yes, the manager could have told him nothing about the situation. I dont know about the 9/11 shit, i suspect that was totall bs, but meh ive heard stupider things.
