Jrock London

tags:

Hello everyone. I'm rather new here. To be exact I was informed about this place through a long conversation that was started by me commenting on someones pants. Nevertheless I was told this place had alot of alternative and underground things going on so I figured this would be a golden oppertunity to spread the word of Jrock.

This idea came to me not too long ago to start a group for Jrock fans, where we goto conventions, have small parties, get togethers and much more. Discussion on whats cool with the scene and what isn't. It started like many other groups whether they be an artist group, an anime group or whatever by the idea "I cannot be the only one that enjoys this type of music"

For those of you that may not know alot about this scene I'll explain a little.

The basic term Jrock is simple "Japanese Rock". This generalization covers all from soft core, punk, ska, cybernetic metal, witch metal, whatever. Only difference being it is Japanese.

However there is a very interesting sub culture than isn't seen much in the American Music Industry that has been becomming more and more popular over here called, "Visual Kei". This is almost like a preformance art. Where the members of the group dress up in whichever way and preform alongside singing and playing music. A Visual attraction one might say much like KISS, GWAR, whatever. This is usually split into two halves (of course there are always lesser known categories)

Oshare Kei: Oshare Kei is usually a little more light hearted. Where the members dress in dresses (even the males yes lol) or brightly colored outfits, have more reasonable or "pretty" make-up and accesorize sometimes to the point of rediculesness. Their music still varies, however most of these bands are usually a little lighter. There are some that arn't so much.

Eroguro: this category (my personal favorite) focusses on emphesizing the erotic and the grotesque. With the leather, and desgusting make-up. Cutting onstage, vomiting onstage, masturbating, throwing yourself around, spewing ink or blood or who knows what else. The music is usually a little more violent, a little more erotic but also.. like the name. Grotesque. Some bands their music video's, sound, look, lyrics and preformances almost have a macabre sadomasochistic feel to them.

If anyone is interested in learning more please contact me: xxwarumonoxx@gmail.com or just respond to this post, we have a group on Myspace and I plan on making a mailing list for those that don't. We also have a website.
