Nature in a Box: reflections on the captivity of wild animals Join wildlife activist Rob Laidlaw as he explores the myths and realities of zoos and our relationship to animals. This talk will explain why most zoos are a manifestation of our societal view that nature is there to be altered and manipulated; examine some of the current problems that captive animals face and; look at where captivity may be moving in the future. The presentation takes a holistic approach to understanding the experiences of animals and our relationship to them on both a personal and societal level. Rob Laidlaw is the founder of Zoocheck Canada, a charity dedicated to protecting wildlife in captivity in the wild and is the author of the newly published book Wild Animals in Captivity.
