The GuluWalk Soccer Tourney:
Why: To raise funds and awareness to the plight of Northern Uganda's children. For over 20 years, thousands of northern Uganda's children have been abducted, raped, tortured or killed by the LRA, a rebel group. This has gone on for over 20 years, during which the world has been silent. For this reason, Guluwalk (www.guluwalk.com) was founded to raise awareness to the plight of these otherwise helpless children. By the times GuluWalk was formed in 2005, as many as 40,000 children had to walk about 12km daily from their homes to seek safety from the rebels. Today, Guluwalk operates in over 100 cities across the world, attracting tens of thousands of participants.
The Tourney:
We are hoping to use the beautiful game (soccer) as a tool for social justice in Northern Uganda. We are encouraging players to come individuals, or in teams. So come have fun and give hope to Uganda's child soldiers.
