Worlds fastest supercomputer runs linux

I had to look up what a petaflop is, and I still don't quite get it, but I think I 've grasped it enough to know that it's really fast (10 to the power of 15 flops - a calculator averages about 10 flops).

The Roadrunner was built by for the US Department of Energy apparently with the purpose of "simulating how nuclear materials age and
whether the aging nuclear weapon arsenal of the United States is safe
and reliable".

The rest of the article didn't make much sense to me, the only part that stuck out was that this super computer uses a linux OS (Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
