Is the zoning amendment desired by the developer a good investment of tax dollars for Old East if approved by City Council?

The design features negotiated by the city in exchange for waiving the per/unit development charges are a good value.

The addition of 600 units of housing in Old East Village is a good trade-off for the loss of development charges.

old east development poll

have i missed something? what design features? i've seen a drawing (with more stick-figger people than cars on the street, the artist has to be from out of town), but so far, haven't heard anything about specific design features. i gather there is a meeting at city hall on june 16th, where such issues may be aired. i'm just curious, with no empty (parking) lots and new entrances/exits allowed on dundas under the old east plan, where are all those cars from the buildings heading west going to go once they've left the people silos?

anyhoo, at the other end of dundas, farhi holdings has announced their latest acquisition, the bell building, could accomodate ANOTHER 14 storeys - this time for housing. anyone willing to take odds on how soon we start hearing threats of demolition unless the city coughs up more concessions? buying real estate unsuited to your plans (e.g. heritage sites like the capitol theatre, st thomas courthouse) then threatening to hold your breath til you turn blue ... i say we call the bluff. let him rip it down ... maybe a bunch of hippies can set up a tent city there and raise hell.

oh, that's been done before

i personally would more

i personally would more than willingly huff and puff and blow the bell building down.
