Geez Magazine

Born and raised a staunch Catholic, the distance I've put between the church, God, and myself is not surprising.  In denouncing religion, and holding firm in my faith as an aethiest, I've stumbled into a sense of identity and vested myself in the practice of existential reform, inquisition, and the cascading parameters of cynical constructivism and leftist idealism.

Ironically, if not for the church and its notion of God, I'd probably believe in, well, God.

And so, as my belief in irony proves steadfast this easter weekend, I randombly found myself lost in the progressive faith based publication, Geez.  Imagine a faith based Adbusters.

As is the norm, anything remotely progressive is hardly lauded by the church, or any other religious sanction or sect, as the will of God (ie that which is right, just, good, or truthfull).  At least, this was my assumption up and until Geez basically unravelled my existential turtle-neck from the belly up.

I won't be heading to mass or be participating in a rosary group anytime soon, but I'm not the same cynic I was 24 hours ago.

In dealing with everything from feminism, environmentalism, sexuality, art (music, visual, literature), family, community, politics, activism, Geez kind of (pun not intended) nails it.  Again, a faith based Adbusters (sans the ubiquitous feeling of despair) comes to mind.

Well worth checking out.

Thought I'd share.

I found your site on Google looking up pollution in Sarnia.
Then I started reading and saw you liked Geez.
Which I just randomly met the editor downtown Sarnia last week (his wife is from here), and its also one of my favourite magazines.

Then I started reading your thoughts on church and the like, and I started a church in Sarnia a year and a half. (www.thestory.ca)

Then I realized this is a site made up of multiple authors, but anyway, I love Geez too.

Just thought I'd say hi and looking forward to reading your site.
