An international group calling itself Anonymous declared war on Scientology on January 21st. On Feb. 10th Church of Scientology "Orgs" were protested by 7000 people in 93 countries. Scientology's web servers also suffered from Distributed Denial of Service attacks. Scientology (which has an extensive history of targetting its critics with legal and illegal measures) has obviously been fighting back. The "Church" petitioned twice for an injunction against members of Anonymous protesting near CoS buildings, and both times have been turned down.
Now Scientology is trying to strike back using the weapon Anonymous has used very effectively: Youtube. Boingboing.net has a story about Scientology members posting personal information about Anonymous members in a video entitled "Anonymous—Hate Crimes & Terrorism Directed at Scientology". The video has been removed from Youtube.
Anonymous plans for another round of protests today, to mark the birthday of L. Ron Hubbard, the science fiction writer to created the religion/pyramid scheme. There is probably one in Toronto.
Below is most of Wikinews' coverage of the denial of the injunction:
The Church of Scientology's second petition for an injunction against online protest group Anonymous was denied by Judge Douglas Baird of Pinellas County, Florida.
The first petition, filed Tuesday, against Anonymous was denied
yesterday by Judge Linda Allan. The injunction sought to prevent
members of Anonymous from coming within 500 feet of Church of
Scientology buildings. At time of publishing, the Church has not
responded to a request for comment. The ruling reads:
"This Petition has been filed against twenty-six individuals alleged to
be associating as a group referred to as 'Anonymous'. The Petition
contained no specific allegations of wrongdoing against the individuals
named as Respondents, nor is it alleged that any of the said named
Respondents are responsible for any threats, phone-calls, or specific
wrongful acts sought to be enjoined. The Petition fails to allege that
any of the Respondents have interfered with or have attempted to
deprive the Petitioners of any cognizable right. Further, the Court
finds that the Petitioner's certification of notice is insufficient to
justify the issuance of an injunction without notice to the Respondents."
Wikinews' page for this article also includes an interview with someone who claims to be a member of Anonymous.
According to Wikipedia, Anonymous also takes credit for turning an online child sex predator over to the police in Toronto. They are a decentralized internet vigilante group it seems, and certainly have their work cut out for them with the Church of Scientology. I have to admit I'm somewhat fascinated by them. The anonymous motto is "We are anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget."

Have you guys seen this one yet? Scientology Street Fair
I found this video on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPol_m8wm8Y
A reporter with a camera tries to attend a Scientology "street fair" only to find out that the public street is closed off, and he's being told to leave by a security guard and a cop. Then, what I guess would be a group of hired harrassers start following and verbally assaulting the fella "Whaddaya got against Hubbard?" and "I'm sure you're a child molester!". It's pretty entertaining to watch!

I find viral videos, as a concept, extrememly interesting and terrible effective. The response to these videos on youtube alone has been tremendous.
I think anonymous has chosen a powerful weapon.

My Photos
hello hello.
hello hello.
certainly interesting, but....
I have seen their flyers all over the place, on campus and downtown.
They name the monotheistic religions and said they always tell the
truth, then they named Scientology, and said they tell the truth only
after your cheque is cleared. And claims "Question Scientology"
My
impression on this statement was that, although there are truth in what
it said, but it sounded like Scientology is only religion in which
makes money out of their insitutional activitiies. So I think there are
defiently other religious interests involved in this group.
Also, as a non-religous person, I personally don't see why people have to protest Scientology.
It
seems like a phenomenon that always happens when new religion appears,
and people try to make them look like they are extreme, just like any
religons were.
I mean, I don't personally agree with what they
adovocate, and certainly what they do, but why can't people leave them
alone?
not a single group
I don't go near campus very often, so I haven't seen the posters you mentioned. But I think it's important to remember that Anonymous is more of a concept than a cohesive group. There's no central body dictating the official posters. Just about anybody who has the motivation to could make a poster (or a video) claiming to be "Anonymous".
My point is, because it's so decentralized and unstructured the political analysis behind each communication from Anonymous is going to vary.
As for why they don't want to leave Scientology alone... one could easily say that Scientology has brought this backlash on itself. Check out the Wikipedia I linked to above re: Scientology and the Internet for some examples.
Scientology has been suing and otherwise harassing "Suppressive Persons" (CoS speak for critics of the cult, especially former members).
L. Ron Hubbard's wife and several top cult members were convicted of the largest domestic espionage crimes in US history. They infiltrated, broke into and wiretapped IRS offices in an attempt to clean up the record of L. Ron.
You can read about that and more of the controversies surronding Scientology at this Wikipedia article (it has many references).
Here is a blog entry by a person who attended the Feb 10 protest in London, UK. He details how he was stalked and photographed by cult members. I don't think he's crazy... all the research I've done about CoS points to this type of behaviour.
Here's another link to a document leaked by a whistleblower on Wikileaks: Church of Scientology Office of Special Affairs and Frank Oliver. I've only skimmed through it, but it appears to be notes on "black ops" conducted by Mr. Oliver before he left the cult.
One more, and this one's pretty fun: the Tom Cruise propaganda video that got leaked onto Youtube. It was the CoS using a copyright violation notice to attempt to censor the video that provoked Anonymous in the first place. Tom Cruise appears to have completely lost touch with reality.

I just realized that Wikipedia's featured article today is about the Southpark episode on Scientology I linked to.
