Survey polls Afghan attitudes towards Canadian and other Foreign troops in Afghanistan

It's been interesting watching the various players in the Afghanistan debate put their spin on a recent Environics-CBC poll conducted in Afghanistan. the survey was conducted with a sample of 1,578 adult Afghans from all 34 of the country's provinces. Survey's were conducted in people's homes, in either Dari or Pashto, with women interviewing women and men interviewing men (50/50 women to men). Check it out.

The Freps is just picking this story up today, two days after the fact.

Contrast this recent poll with polls concucted by ABC news in 2005 and 2006:

Interesting results

The results from recent polls have been interesting (though are not representative samples).  The major problem I can see with any opinion poll within the region would be bias due to fear of reprisal and general dependence.  Many of those polled would be more or less dependant upon assistance through NATO forces, and the current Afghan government.

I find it more instructive that so many forget the activities of the war criminals that comprise the present Afghan governmental and military institutions (crimes which we have participated in as well – torture, murder of captured “Taliban” in some cases by mass asphyxiation in cargo containers etc).  Illustrious figures such as General Dostrum formally of the Northern Alliance have major roles in the new “Afghan Army”, for those who don’t recall Dostrum’s best work – he’s known for punishing disobedient troops by tying them to tank-tracks and rolling over them.

great post

Even though I have a hard time believing some of those results, this post is really good.
