Rent-a-cop vs. Rabblerouser
...at the Canadian Centre for Bio-ethical Reform presentation. After this getleman made his point, Stephanie Gray asked security to take him out. Rabblerouser won; rent-a-cop walked away. In the foreground stands one of about 30 of us who decided to make the absurdity of Ms. Gray's point even clearer by turning her back.
On a more personal note: I'd been thinking about this event just about constantly, ever since. I was frustrated, I think mainly because the argument went in the same pointless cycle that all virtually un-debatable topics like this always do--relying entirely on what Ms. Gray claimed to be scientific fact. The kids behind the 'free bumper sticker' counter had me distraught too, just because I remember how easily influenced I was at that age, and what awful influences people like Ms. Gray are.
But on my way to work today, I thought about how many simmilar events I've been to, where there were five or six of us, feeling like a petty minority while we tried to create some kind of effect, and how we made up nearly half of the room (or so it felt) last night. I think we really had a serious effect on the rest of the audience. And then I giggled for a second, and smiled a whole bunch.
So if anyone saw me with a huge smile, giggling to myself while walking, that's why. Don't worry, I'm not crazy.
