Borat

tags:

Yesterday I saw Borat at the Rainbow.  I thought it was gut-bursting funny, but I can see how others would not.  The film is very offensive to women, Jews, Kazakhstanis and homosexuals.  My impression of the film is that it's a satire meant to show that these backwards ideas exist in America.

Apparently two people who were in the film are suing because they wouldn't have said what they did if they hadn't been drunk.  I have a hard time with that one... maybe they wouldn't have been so bold, but I bet they actually believe what they said.

Anyone else see it yet?

Worst Movie Ever?

It looks as though not everyone buys into the professed genius of Cohen's character. Besides the deceptive approach to filming people for the film, and the weak storyline, some just think its not worth the time it takes to see it.

The show is better.

watched it with Trev.  There was some serious funny, notably the parts that are too filthy to put on the TV show, but overall, I was let down.

In the TV show (that I watch on youtube, not on TV) Cohen seems to be more present in the interviews.  His reactions to things is really what it's all about for me.  The movie seems a little more scripted.

Also, the whole narrative about Pamela Anderson is crap.  It sets the stage for a feature length film, but really does nothing to add to the film as a whole.  I think maybe the problem is the feature film format for Cohen.

Also, now that everyone knows who Cohen is, he's essentially killed off his particular brand of comedy.  It's going to be interesting to see the reprocussions that this film has for his career.

I's just saying is all...

I didn't like it

I found some parts funny but I think its not worth going to a theatre to see it.

I didn't like that exagerated Americanism, with let's-be-stupid-and-make-fun-of-everything attitude. Especially, when Borat was fighting with his manager/friend in full naked,I found that really disturbing and pointless.

It also lacked realness of TV seriies. Some parts were oviously scripted, and made me feel uncomfortable to react.

Well,I like Borat in general, though I'm ok with watching it on Youtube.

borat

borat makes fun of the worst of the east and the west at a particulary appropriate time. I hope supporters/participants of/in war (americans and canadians) watch the film and realize how rediculous their fellows appear in that rodeo scene. I was frankly shocked at the anti-semetic jokes, but Cohen is jewish and also a brilliant comic, right up there with groucho marx and woody allen. He was recently compared (last night on a tvo talk show) to political satirists and jewish comics such as andy kaufman and lenny bruce. As a matter of fact, all four comics I mentionned were/are jewish!

Laughed my ass off

I went to see this movie yesterday, reluctantly, as I don't usually enjoy Hollywood films. I actually cried more than once from laughing so hard. It is envelope pushing stuff in the tradition of other great comedians. Many people won't like him, but I'm sure many will.

The complaints, there are now more than one, seem centered on deception. They claim they were told they were involved in a documentary for release outside of America. Shady way to use folks but they did seem to be saying only what they would be saying in front of their friends anyway. Thats my perception of it.

Yeshkemesh

haven't seen it yet, but I will be seeing it very shortly..

I think its Cohen's best character, as he gets people to show how they really react to minorities and cultures different from the mojority.

CBC did a review on the newsworld show or whatever it was, and gave it huge props.  Being so non-politically correct, props should be given to a guy like Cohen, who can withstand such horrid behavior and still continue the character..

SUCCESS!
