On Monday, Vote Progressive

As many members of this site have already pointed out, the 2006 Municipal Election represents an unprecedented chance for Londoners to send a majority of progressives to office and ensure a more responsive, forward-thinking City Hall. I am urging everyone to get out and vote tomorrow, specifically for those candidates that have been endorsed by the progressive members of this site (presumably everyone?), the London District Labour Council, the Western New Democrats and (indirectly) the organization responsible for our smaller, community-based wards, Imagine London.

I am driving people to the polls all day Monday for the Gina Barber and Susan Eagle campaigns, and if anyone needs a ride you can contact Gina's office at 519-471-8637 and Susan's office at 519-641-5676 and let them know! Polls are open 10am-8pm. <!--break-->

For a comprehensive list of progressive candidates (and their websites), see Dan Hilton's post here:

For a general discussion on the Municipal Election see Jeff's poll "Which Mayoral candidate will you vote for?":

and Rachel's thread on Cynthia Etheridge:

As a final note, for those who do not plan to vote or consider themselves too "radical" for any of the candidates, I will ask this: what type of City Hall is going to be more responsive to protests and progressive movements - one in which the candidates are obligated to represent developers' interests (because the developers financed/bankrolled their entire campaigns), or one in which candidates have been elected by citizens and progressives who either sympathize or wholly agree with such protests/movements? Ask yourself these questions, get to the ballot box, and vote progressive!

Mike: whos running in Ward 7 anyway? it used to be my ward but has since changed. I have a feeling its some heinous candidate like Caranci or MacDonald. Either way, your vote for Board of Control is integral! Right now its like an upscale country club full of developers and neocons.

Jeremy: I respect the fact that, even if you've rejected voting in the past, you have decided to vote in this election. The gravity of this one is obvious: never before have so many progressive candidates run for office with a realistic chance of winning, and many of these candidates have roots in activism (Barber, Rice, Turner).

Oh Ward 7...

It's looking like a spoiled ballot again for me... I'm pretty much decided on Mayor and Board of Control, but Ward 7 is a bit dissapointing. I suppose I could just eat my ballot...

bring some jam

You'd better bring some jam... from what I remember the municipal ballots are much larger than the federal and provincial ones.. and I think they're cardboard.

edibleballot.tao.ca used to have recipes for ballots, but now that address points to a site for Anti-Racist Action.

Thankfully the incredible Internet Archive Way Back Machine has a copy of the site from 2001:

yum,

Jeremy

P.S. in case anyone was wondering, I am actually going to vote this time.
