Tories' climate change plan leaked by the Anarchist Boogie-man?

Jeff Monaghan speaks to reporters at an Ottawa press conference yesterday. CP photo

The Mounties always get their man.

The RCMP arrested Jeff Monaghan, a temp at Environment Canada was arrested in relation to the draft climate change plan that mysteriously found it's way to the fax machines of opposition parties and media outlets.

Monaghan accused the government of a "witchhunt against the lowest-ranking temp employee in the department and possibly the entire government."

They're still outing anarchist? That's soooo 2001...

Meanwhile, it seems as if someone made a point of letting the media know that Monaghan is a member of a collective that recently opened an anarchist bookstore in downtown Ottawa. The way that info has been played up really makes me wonder if there's a genuine fear of a Fifth Column, or if implying anarchist ties is just an easy way to discredit someone. either way, it looks like there's a Black Cross chapter in for Ottawa's future.

I wonder Monaghan is part of the Black Tortilla?

Infoshop news on Ottawa Anarchist Bookshop

"The new Ottawa bookstore opened this week to "provide access to alternative media and resources." The opening of the bookstore and community space, at Bank and Cooper streets, was set to mark international May Day, an occasion long celebrated by anarchist and socialist movements." (May 3, 2007)

Anarchists in the capital? Who would have thought?

Only days after the

Only days after the Anarchist bookshop opens and Jeff Monaghan and few others are qouted in the Ottawa Citizen the state sends in the gestapo ("A police organization that employs terroristic methods to control a populace"). Fear seems to be one of the many strategies here.

But Jeff Monaghan, a member of the group's organizing collective, said the project is much more than just another bookstore.

"This is a community space," he said. "Infoshops are part of a much larger social movement, putting complex theories of social equality into practice and identifying with related movements and struggles demanding freedom and dignity."

"Considering that Ottawa is the country's political capital, it is surprising that there was never been a space so overtly dedicated to fostering dissent," a statement from the group said.
Decisions about the shop are made by the eight-member collective, based on a model of non-hierarchy where every member has an equal say.

In a statement, the group said that the goal is "to provide community members with access to alternative media and resources, to provide a base and meeting space for anti-poverty and social justice organizations, and to support mutual aid and the growth of grassroots community organizing."

The collective hopes that this location will provide the much-needed space for Ottawa's advocate and anarchist groups to meet.

Collective member Sarah Armstrong summed up what she hopes to accomplish through the shop: "We shouldn't just rock the boat - we have to sink the f-----!"

Is it really a coincidence that the bookshop opens a week and a half ago and Jeff is under investigation for some bullshit charge?

So, what's the lesson here?

Is it: A) Don't give interviews to reporters about the opening of your new anarchist book store while your being investigated for leaking govenment documents?

B) Don't leak govenment documents from the office fax machine when a plain manilla envelope slipped under a door will do?

or C) Use your Marxist co-worker's fax machine while he's out to lunch?

(Trick question, the correct answer is actually  A and C.)

...I wonder if they sell books on security culture at Exile?

Or d)

Publicly admitting you are an anarchist, especially so geographically close to our fascist leader 'Harpitler', will result in false accusations, persecution and criminal puishment (for some crime that works well at the time).
