I was just scrolling through the eeepc forum looking at the discussion over the new 900 series eeepc. What made me look at it, is why asus decided to put windows as an option, and since XP is being cut off in June this year (2008, believe the 30th to be exact), whether vista is going to be the "option".
this article was quoted in the discussion, on how to claim a windows tax refund from the vender of a new computer.
Its rather impressive, and according to the article, anyone with a new computer with windows preinstalled, has the legal right to claim a refund and return the OS to the vendor. It says that in fine print of EULA of windows, providing its a new machine, and the user chooses not to accept the EULA, they may return the software license and get money back.
This is great news and worth the effort to make a point to companies for those of us that are boycotting non-GNU / microsoft products. The author of the article states that its not necessarily the money thats important, but the stance against the software giant that counts. Also says that it may even be worth it to escalate to small claims court, since its very cut and dry.
