I personally switched from Rogers communication cable services to Bell Sympatico services, due to traffic shaping policies held by the former. In recent news however, it appears that Sympatico service subscribers, are on the cusp of suffering the same fate.

Just popped up on engadget.com, the national Rube Goldberg machine contest of 2008. This years challenge was to make a hamburger in no less than 20 steps ..
here's the article with a peak at this years coverage. (blog.makezine.com)

There are some new cool privacy settings that pertain to user profiles.
Users can now set whether they want a certain bit of information contained in the profile to show publically or to only users in their "crew".
Here's how to adjust these settings (and also input information into your user profile):

Rating System Brainstorm
Starting this blog as a way to focus ideas on the current user comment rating system. A recent thread regarding an emotionally involved discussion has pointed out some difficulties with the new "karma" system. A few of the sites users have inputted their frustration with the system as it stands.

So we had a work session to solve some problems that have been discovered since the last batch of upgrades a week ago. Just a quick bit of whats been done:

I was just scrolling through the eeepc forum looking at the discussion over the new 900 series eeepc. What made me look at it, is why asus decided to put windows as an option, and since XP is being cut off in June this year (2008, believe the 30th to be exact), whether vista is going to be the "option".
this article was quoted in the discussion, on how to claim a windows tax refund from the vender of a new computer.

I've started some site documentation.. a basic HOWTO for all the stuff on the site. its open to anyone to edit/add to.
This can be found under the help menu, called Site Documentation.
So far, only how to make photo albums, and add images to those photo albums is there...
I'll continue adding more stuff to it, as I have a strong understand of how everything works. but feel free to give input where its needed.. I have made a mistake once...... once.. ;)

aaaaahahahahahahaha
its a bit old, but I figure it would be the perfect to share since we can now add videos to blogs and forums. plus I just upgraded my VM's xp IE6 to IE7, and was surprised that it took 30mins, to do something that should take about 3mins.. oh well..
on another note, the site seems to work in both IE6 and IE7, so thats good.. but USE FIREFOX!!!

According to google, blogging is the most dangerous.
geek humour gets me in stitches everytime, so this ranks up there. An experiment done by XKCD on google's trend software, changed "died in a blogging accident" from 2 results to now (as of 9:20am ish jan 13/08) 283,000.
bloggers be careful!

So here's another one for all you facebook haters club members...
Blockbuster, facebook and beacon get sued over privacy laws in the states? Basically, there's a1988 video privacy protection law, which is broken when facebook and blockbuster use beacon to publish rental information on a user's profile.
Civil remedies are said to be about $2500+ per incident of the law being broken..
not sure what sort of similar laws there could be here in Canada, but I do suspect it violates a user agreement when you sign up for a blockbuster account. However, maybe not.. did anyone read the fine print?
